I am Ellen C. Livingston, LCSW-C, LICSW a licensed clinical social worker offering telehealth sessions in the Washington, DC, and Maryland communities. I specialize in trauma informed therapy with individuals, couples, and families, in a career that has spanned over 25 years.
My career began as a graduate of Dillard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Social Work from Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, where my studies focused on Therapies with Families and Children. Currently, I serve as Lead Clinical Social Work Supervisor for a DC Public Charter School and I am reestablishing my Part-time Private Practice on a virtual platform.
My work as a Clinical Social Worker has addressed a broad range of clients utilizing an eclectic mix of approaches. My areas of expertise include Trauma Informed, Cognitive Behavioral, Motivational Interviewing, Attachment, Mindfulness, Play Therapies, and others. As my career has evolved I have focused on working with individuals and families impacted by trauma experienced by personal and community violence as well as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result of military and other occupational service. In addition to being a clinical therapist, I am an Adjunct Professor at Howard University School of Social Work preparing the next generation of Graduate level Social Workers. I also, provide Professional Development and Clinical Supervision for those seeking clinical licensure in Washington, DC, and Maryland.
In an effort to meet clients where they are and provide current treatment modalities, I am excited to announce I have become a Prepare and Enrich Certified Facilitator. I will utilize this evidence based process to help and support couples and families in my practice. Additionally, I am developing a sub-specialty with journalist who are exposed to occupational stress and trauma. I have a strong appreciation for the role of journalist in society, and consider it a privilege to work with news professionals. I have received training from the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma on the professional culture and occupational challenges of journalist. In addition to using HIPAA-compliant telehealth software, I have also received training from the Freedom of the Press Foundation on best practices for digital security when using telehealth technology.
